Diesel for boats and off-road equipment

Dyed off-road diesel for diesel boats, generators and equipment that does not operate on public roads.

What the red dye means

Dyed diesel is the same diesel sold at a truck stop, with red dye added to show that road tax has not been paid. As a result, it costs less per gallon. It is legal in boats, generators and off-road equipment, and illegal in road vehicles.

Large tanks, filled with care

Diesel boat tanks are often large and hard to reach. Our team fills them carefully to prevent spills.

Diesel for boats and off-road equipment: common questions

Is dyed diesel legal in a boat?

Yes. A boat is not a road vehicle, so dyed diesel is legal. The same applies to generators and off-road equipment.

What is the difference between dyed diesel and regular diesel?

Only the dye, which shows that road tax has not been paid. As a result, it costs less per gallon.

Can I put dyed diesel in my truck?

No. Using off-road diesel in a road vehicle is a federal violation, and the dye remains detectable in a tank sample long after purchase.
